Welcome to the New Cities Lab!
We examine a variety of topics from a human geography perspective, including new cities, nation-building, migration, discourses of sustainability, and urban policy mobility. One of our main areas of focus is the global phenomenon of new master-planned cities. Our research examines new city projects in many parts of the world: Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Kuwait, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Palestine, and Ecuador. While we do some discourse analysis, a key part of our research is conducted in the field, visiting new city projects and interviewing government officials, planners, and those affected by these urban mega-developments.
